It is a lovely countryside ride through typical French country villages on our way to the town of Maintenon. Maintenon is a lovely little town known as the place of residence of Louis XIV's mistress and eventual wife, Madame de Maintenon. The town has an impressive château bearing her namesake and is a charming little place.

After leaving town we go back to the country, stopping next at an archaeological site to learn about ancient megaliths. Once our history lesson is finished here we continue on through more typical French country villages before picking up a dedicated bike lane taking us through scenic countryside on our way to Chartres.
